Reflections Lennox Head

New South Wales

A review of our stay....September 2026.

Firstly, we would like to acknowledge the excellent service we received from the Lennox Head staff. Reception was welcoming, friendly and very helpful. On arrival, the park layout, amenities and access arrangements were carefully explained to us, and when we required assistance during our stay, it was provided promptly. Our rating of 9 for Service reflects this.

Unfortunately, the standard and condition of our four-berth cabin was a very different matter. Our concern is not based on one isolated defect, but on the number and variety of issues which, taken together, suggest that routine inspection and maintenance have been inadequate.

The security-door flyscreen was badly damaged immediately adjacent to the locking mechanism. Although we established that the lock could not be operated through the damaged area, its location nevertheless gave the door an unsettling appearance from a security perspective. We would have felt considerably more secure had the commonly fitted Perspex guard been installed around the locking area. The main glass entrance door and its lock operated correctly.

The vertical blinds at the front door were damaged and incomplete. The range hood had broken/damaged switches which caused concern about their safe operation. The bathroom extractor fan was extremely dirty. There was significant rust along the bottom of the bunk base, while the ceiling fan showed substantial deterioration, with paint peeling and flaking.

We fully appreciate that the cabin is situated only about 200 metres from a surf beach and that salt-laden coastal air inevitably creates additional maintenance challenges, particularly with corrosion and painted surfaces. Nevertheless, we believe these conditions make regular inspection and preventative maintenance more important, rather than making such deterioration acceptable.

The shower curtain arrangement allowed water to escape onto the bathroom floor, which already showed evidence of water damage and a poor previous repair. The freezer compartment of the refrigerator was missing its internal door and had substantial ice build-up. The television appeared to have been fitted to an unsuitable base using a makeshift support arrangement.

Of particular concern from a practical point of view, there was no table or seating whatsoever inside a cabin advertised as four-berth accommodation. The main bed was the only supplied place to sit. There was a small table and four stackable chairs on the verandah, but the table was of substantial construction and could not simply be carried upright through the cabin doorway. Fortunately, as caravan travellers, we had brought our own folding camping table, which we used inside the cabin together with chairs brought in from the verandah. We do not believe guests hiring a self-contained four-berth cabin should need to improvise their own basic indoor dining arrangement.

During our stay, the security door also came off and required attention. We emphasise that the staff response was excellent and the problem was rectified within minutes. This again illustrates the distinction we make between the service provided by individual staff members, which we found very good, and the physical condition and maintenance of the accommodation.

We have ten captioned photographs documenting the condition of the cabin, which we have retained should they subsequently be required.

What concerns us most is that many of these defects are not matters that could reasonably have appeared between one guest leaving and the next arriving. Several appear to have developed over time and should have been evident during routine cleaning or inspection. We do not regard this as criticism of the cleaning or reception staff. If staff are not expected to identify and report obvious maintenance defects, or if reported defects are not being rectified, that is ultimately a management issue.

Individually, some of these matters may appear relatively minor. Collectively, however, we believe they resulted in accommodation that fell well below the standard reasonably expected of Reflections and represented very poor value for the price charged.

Lennox Head itself is a lovely destination and we enjoyed our time in the area. Our disappointment relates specifically to the standard of the accommodation provided. We hope this feedback is taken in the constructive manner intended and, more importantly, that the cabin and the park's inspection and maintenance procedures are reviewed before future guests encounter the same problems.
